by Wilson Bryan Kay. Sure I've read the book (I'll bet you haven't, BTW; you're just being your usual knee-jerk perverse). The book is rightly not taken seriously, because Kay had no insider's knowledge of the ad industry--he wasn't writing as an insider revealing actual practice, but trying to reverse-engineer advertising techniques from the outside in.
His specific claims are highly suspect, yet I've long been fascinated by your flat rejection of the notion that visual imagery can be consciously crafted for effect, and that the masters do so unobtrusively so as to not spoil the effect.
Hell, man, you're a master of the visual cliche of the phallic rocket thrusting--thrusting, I say--to penetrate the naked sky! Oh baby tickle that High Frontier!!! Pour on the Gs, the spot can take it!
Whew...
I guess we're doomed to have this same conversation until the end of time. Oh well...
