<I read recently where we're planning on using those little nukes.....the "bunker busters" over there.
Because they'll hit Saddam in the holes where he hides. So, we'll make a lot of pot holes and Bagdad will be hot with radiation for awhile. Not to mention where the winds will carry.
I have seen no evidence that we will be using such "bunker busters," with one major reason being that as far as I know they have not been developed yet. Remember the flak a few months back when the military mentioned wanting to invent such devices? Even if such devices were used, I don't think they would release much more radiation than a typical underground nuclear test, the latter of which usually use much larger bombs than a bunker buster would.
(But will we get Sadam? Or will he just disappear into the night like Bin Laden?)
Good point. It would be hard to imagine that he does not have some kind of escape plan. But away from the Iraq infrastructure, never mind the security that protects him from assassination, I don't know how much escape is going to buy him.
I worry about the American troops by the thousands who will be exposed to the fallout, not only from the nuclear bunker busters, but from the horrors and hardships that they will encounter while trying to secure and then rebuild the town. (Just the TOWN, not the country.) Then with that comes the psychological damage they will have to live with for the rest of their lives. Will we give them a ticker tape parade when they arrive home, or will they be treated like some of the Viet Nam vets?
If it was up to me, they would get the parade. Personally, I think they will be just fine psychologically. If you know anyone who will treat them like dirt, ask them why.
Only there, horror and bitterness will be wider and deeper, because they won't be able to understand why all that horrific damage was done to oust ONE man, so that he couldn't produce such horror anywhere else. The "cure" will be worse than the "disease". And then they'll see the oil fields on fire, and they'll weep for the people who drive SUV's (doubtful). They'll really wonder if it IS all about oil. No, this not going to be a pretty war.
We are going to be hated.
But then again, this is just an opinion. I'm sure Tom and Matt and Scott think the Iraqi children will line the streets with tiny American flags cheering us on.
We'll see, won't we?
