I can only speak for myself.
I am male.
I like sex.
I would like to be married someday.
I would not marry a woman with whom I have not frequently engaged in sex.
I would not like to trap a woman in a relationship she didn't enjoy.
I would not like to have children outside of marriage.
I would not like to make child support payments for the next 18 years to an uncommitted partner.
If my girlfriend had to have surgery, I would sleep in a chair in the same room while she recovered.
I would have a bucket ready when she awoke in case she were nauseated.
I would help her out of bed.
I would roll her down the hall in a wheelchair.
I would drive her home, and help her around the house until she felt better.
Why? BECAUSE PEOPLE NEED SUPPORT IN SHITTY SITUATIONS. ESPECIALLY EMOTIONALLY SHITTY ONES.
Abstinance? You would deny people the one certain pleasure in this world? Do you read the news?
