Re: Monotheism
Way, way back when Christians first looked at Japan their missionaries had some luck. Christianity sounded good to the Japanese, and gave them something else to do. They could go to the shrine on Friday, say, and to church on Sunday, and everyone was happy.
Except for the Christians, who said that theirs was a vengeful god who wanted his subjects to have no other godly affiliations.
Sounded kinda narrow-minded to the Japanese, who now COULDN'T go to both the shrine and church, and decided the hell with the church.
Been a struggle for Chrisitianity in Japan ever since.
