The mold scare in Houston was stupid. Houston is a semi-tropical, humid environment. We set next to the warm Gulf of Mexico, which sends huge amounts of moisture our way.
Mold is a pain. I hate cleaning it and it kills my sinuses (Humans evolved for a drier climate) But mold is a natural part of the Houston environment. Our outside mold spore count is usually on high. Saying that a house must be free of mold and mold spore before it can be sold it crazy. We can get it removed, but it will come back.
For those who don’t know what the mold scare is in Houston. It got started with a scare about ‘toxic mold.” Apparently this is just one type of hundreds of different mold, most of which are harmless. When a house is being sold, they bring in mold detectors. If there is mold, the house doesn’t pass inspection until it is cleaned. This means that if mold is behind the walls, the walls have to be torn down. Same for the ceiling or any other part of the house. Insurance companies don’t want to pay for this work any more. The bills for this work can run in the 10’s of thousands.
We get our air ducts cleaned about once a year to get rid of the mold. We keep the rest of it as mold free as we can. Who knows what is between the sheet rock.

RThe mold scare makes it hard to sell a house.
