I've burned 2 flags in my lifetime

Once as a kid with my grandma, who was teaching me how to properly retire a flag, and the second time as a boy scout leader about 2 years ago with the same purpose. The flag was donated by the local VFW so we could dispose of it.

I remember as a kid my grandmother also telling me it was also proper to bury the flag as one might bury a fallen soldier. I don't know if this is still true or applicable.
