<the latest news:
Clift is a second-year teacher with the district. He was placed on administrative leave last spring for putting a student in a closet as a disciplinary measure, Mack said.
Been there myself. It’s not incorrect (but then, neither is the paddle), but still very survivable. I also have had a few misdemeanor charges brought against me, and I have to say I do agree with Jim Wheaton’s points.
A little more on Kory Clift:
Sacramento Observer. Ignore the commentary--this page is part of a "single men of Sacramento" type thing.
I have no problem with pride, and that’s exactly what is described here. Also, I believe this is a personal piece meant to attract a date? If so, it will not be completely accurate, as this same pride will call for the writer or proofreader (likely himself), to exaggerate.
KXTV:
According to the student, Clift commented, "Babylon is burning," then said "I can't burn the entire thing because it's illegal." The motive for the incident was unclear.
Well, Babylon is burning, and the 11-year-olds of the world are likely lost, confused, fearful, and in dire need of explanation. This could have been one person’s attempt, and I still hold that, of the evidence seen so far, Clift should be reprimanded for poor judgment, but certainly not fired. Need input -- preferably a transcript of the hearing.
In a statement given to News10, Clift wrote, "I'm not a Muslim. I respect America and I believe in democracy. I did not burn our American flag. This has been taken completely out of context."
It’s an excellent start for a defense.
KCRA TV:
Do you find this one sensational? I do, to a degree:
“And on Thursday, state and county officials confirmed that the teacher, Kory Clift, did not have the proper credentials to be teaching.”
“Clift is working on a temporary credential, which is valid for one more year as he works to complete credential requirements.”
I was always under the impression that credentials were either valid, or invalid -- but never both. Must be an exception to the rule?
Clift has reportedly left the area because of death threats.
Hey, it’s the American way,
Dan
