Private security

The idea that private security systems can't do the job is ludicrous. Banks, industries (particularly here in Silicon Valley), defense contractors, and many others use very effective and tight private security systems. I'm sure defense contractors have to meet certain DOD standards as well.

I would love more details of how security is handled now by airports. Airports, like the Post Office, are basically a government-protected monopoly, and don't have to strain themselves to meet competition. If security is hired by airports, who have little to lose if an airplane goes down, you can see where the problem is.

If airlines hired their own private security, the security system would become a part of that airline's service, the same as their food, on-time record, and safety record. This would make the security system part of the competition with other airlines, and airlines would fall all over themselves to show that THEIR system was better and more foolproof than anyone else's. I can already visualize commercials about this as airlines try to get passengers to fly again.
