While Phil, Tom and Larry all raise valid points, none addresses the plain and simple fact that the current private security firms are not up to the task, a point of view confirmed by continuing lapses in airport security since 9/11.
Enough.
I've alread said that I think the USAF would be the best entity to successfully accomplish the task of keeping would-be terrorists off and away from airliners. Since that option is not being discussed, the next best choice in my opinion is some agency under the auspices of the federal government with the clout to accomplish its assigned duties.
I wouldn't want to entrust the my life, or yours, to the minimum wage hacks now manning the front lines in this theatre of the war against terrorism. They can't do the job and that has been borne out again and again by their performance in the real world, and in tests.
In a situation like this, I really don't give a **** how much it costs, as long as it works.
