How about these?

How about the wonderfully efficient people at the INS who let in 500,000 people on student visas each year then make no effort to keep tabs on them. Most of those 19 hijackers on Sept 11th came here on those visas.

Is the IRS efficient? Well, the annual costs to businesses and individuals to comply with the tax code is several hundred billion dollars. That doesn't sound very efficient to me.

I listened to Congressional testimony several years ago that stated the various government welfare agencies have over 80% overhead costs. If you divided the total welfare allocations by the number of families receiving benefits, it came to over $50,000 per family. However, 80+% of that money was absorbed by bureaucratic overhead. Hardly sounds efficient to me.

I'm sure we can find other examples. Simply put, it has been my experience that government agencies are hardly ever managed efficiently because they know they can alway hit up the taxpayers for more money. Since they can almost never be fired, they don't give a damn, either.
