Publius, what do taxes have to do with those issues you posted?

More to the point, under a Republican Governor and legislature, Florida is NOT doing a very good job in handling the social welfare of its citizens, especially the young.

I will mention just a few examples. Florida is among the top 20 sptates in per-captia income, but ranks in the bottom 10 states when it comes to children's health, education and general welfare, for example:

percent of teen high school dropouts--Fl, 33; US 30

* Whose fault is that? Educating kids doesn't just fall and apply during school hours!

percent of children in poverty--Fl, 22; US 20

*Oh, please, I'm sure help is there. Again, I also have to say, "look at the parents".

percent of families with single parent--Fl, 30; US 27

*Your point here is? It's not the government's job to manage a marriage. Good grief!

fourth graders below basic reading level--Fl, 46; US 39

*Hopefully, the new education guidelines will change all that... nationwide.

arrests for violent crimes ages 10-17--Fl, 680; US 394

*Are you suggesting we have a cop inside every home to make sure kids behave?

arrests for property crimes ages 10-17--Fl, 4,095; US 2,130

*Same as above.

teen birth rate ages 15-17--Fl 33; US 30

*I know, the nationwide rate for teen pregnancy has dropped in the last couple of years, but again, why would that or a jump in percentage be the government's fault?

Florida charges plenty in taxes.(According to Senator Kennedy, we're rich: Those that make over $36,000/year.) Yippee, property taxes went up this year. But, you know, at least we're getting a new High School.

If you and Lindy are going to play politics (Dems vs Reps), Florida is not just under Jeb Bush's watch, we're also under Senators, Bob Graham(D) and Bill Nelson's (D).
