As contrasted with party-line conservatives, who refuse to.
For example, here's a situation which demonstrates non-thinking.
Suppose someone said
"Bush inherited the world's strongest economy" - demonstrably true. Followed by,
"Shortly after Bush took office the US economy entered a recession". According to sources like Greenspan and others, true.
It takes a bit of thinking to realize no one said there was a cause and effect. In fact the author did say he would list facts, and folks on the board would spin them, in effect saying "here's a trap, and it looks like so, and it's over there".
Without thinking there were knee-jerk, to be polite, reactions all over the place as people gleefully jumped in. People denied Bush caused the recession. They denied the recession.
They went so far as to repeatedly deny that the US economy was the strongest. (The statement didn't say that compared with itself it hadn't been stronger, it only said that compared with those of the rest of the world it was the strongest.)
So, anyone who thought would have not jumped into that trap. And anyone who stopped to think would not have denied demonstrable facts.
