Good post

<Okay, let me get this straight:

all the REAL conservatives were going to vote for Simon all along, and Riordan's voting base was the middle.

You misinterpreted me. I totally agreed with this statement, I was not being sarcastic about it. I was setting up the logical problem of the following sentence.

...I may have more sympathy for the pro-lifers than you. If you feel that murder is being done to an innocent soul every time an abortion is performed, then you had better jolly-well let your vote show it.

Personally I am uncomfortable about abortion, and ecstatically happy with birth control. It's a shame that typical conservatives and Catholics dislike birth control so much.

It sounds to me like you are a member of the two-thirds who are thoughtful and reasonable about the subject. I'm not too surprised.

The problem is that abortion has been politicized by the radical leftists and feminists. Abortion is no longer the issue as much as the politics and power games in which abortion, like the environment, is just another weapon. This agenda is what makes a lot of people who support women uncomfortable about the "pro-choice"* movement. In the same way, the extremist anti-abortion clinic-bombers horrify and alienate mainstream pro-lifers.

I personally never met a conservative in this country who was bent out of shape about conventional birth control, unless they did so for specific religious reasons. There were a lot more Catholics against birth control when I was a kid then there are now. Only about 36 percent of Catholics think birth control is wrong.

*If you really want to see the agenda of "pro-choice" in action, try "choosing" adoption in front of one of these radicals.
