Those weren't Democrats, they were the moderate middle. Stop trying to lable them one or the other. I vote Democrat sometimes and Republican sometimes. Don't label me by what I voted last time. I had a hard time choosing between Bush and Gore because both had many strong points and weak points in my view. I thought McCain was clearly better than both, although I may be reassessing my initial voting view based on actual job performance as I did with Reagan.
There are conservatives in the media and many of them liked McCain also. The Media was not favorable to Gore. Kind of shoots the shit out of that major bias thing right there. They covered all his silly campaign goofs. I believe the media is composed mostly of liberal arts majors who's touchy feely attitudes made it hard for them to get a job where facts tend to intrude on preconceived notions, but that sure didn't stop them for going for blood on Clinton & Condit. The reporting in those cases was probably more restrained than it would have been for Quayle or Gingrich in the same situation and I'm sure they tend to be harder on Republicans, but the idea that they are part of a liberal conspiracy to "hide the facts" from the american public is hogwash. The American public wants to know and any paper willing to buck any such conspiracy would soon gain a competitive edge. Capitalism at its best. Reporters have to moderate their bias in order to preserve their livelihood.
You really missed the point about moderation. It's not about Republicans moving towards Democrats its about both moving towards what the majority of American's want rather than their extremist core constituancies or having the guts to take a stand and convince the public that an unpopular stance is the correct one. McCain had the guts to stand up to some unsavory Republican constituants (Bob Jones U types) while Bush did not. That cost McCain greatly. It really sucks that our current system favors electing extremists or those unwilling to stand up to them.
So when did you personally give up on the Contract with America's ideals of Fiscal responsibility and campaign finance reform? Or were those just a plot by liberals to undermine Republicans through that famous liberal Gingrich?

Mark
