Yes, Heathkits!!! Had forgotten about them, they came along a bit later. And you COULD build anything, even, eventually, TV sets, though I never got past an 11 transistor radio with a genuine leather case. In those days you didn't say "genuine" leather, because there wasn't anything else.
And it took me time, because I generally fried one or two of the transistors and had to get to the bigger city to replace them.
And guns. Had BB guns, then pellet guns (Sheridan Silver Streak) and then .22s at about age 11. Shot at anything which moved, or stopped, learned to never point a gun at a person and was left alone about it. One of those rare things where if one followed directions we could do anything we wanted, had I violated them the "correction" would have been long lasting an unpleasant. Never did get into trouble, never did deserve to. But sure shot a lot of innocent animals. The last one was a long, long time ago, and I got literally sick.
Had forgotten about Heathkits. Great product, lost interest just before building a 2-meter rig. The antenna looked daunting, and other things took over.
