He's just saying we should speak the truth, the whole truth, however uncomfortable, about the various successes and failures of different peoples around the world. (Frankly, I'd really prefer the word civilization rather than culture)
It's wrong to give prominence only to the shortcomings of the dominant (Western) civilization while white-washing the shortcomings of all others. For instance, we should go ahead and talk about the crime rate, drugs, divorce, and other various social problems we face in America, but also credit us with unparalelled scientific, technologoical, and economic achievements. Then remove the taboo on speaking about the failures of others. Why haven't any Arab countries managed to adopt free, democratic government? What are the fundamental reasons, and how are linked to Islam? Why have so many peoples in Africa been so far behind technologically? One can discuss these issues rationally without falling into ugly racist stereotypes.
