Re: Roots . . .

The roots are here. The only real argument I have with the page is this:
At midnight on May 14, 1948, the Provisional Government of Israel proclaimed the new State of Israel. On that same date the United States, in the person of President Truman, recognized the provisional Jewish government as de facto authority of the new Jewish state (de jure recognition was extended on January 31). The U.S. delegates to the U.N. and top ranking State Department officials were angered that Truman released his recognition statement to the press without notifying them first. On May 15, 1948, the Arab states issued their response statement and Arab armies invaded Israel and the first Arab-Israeli war began.

In reality, that “first Arab-Israeli war” can be witnessed almost daily on your own TV. There have been numerous cease-fires (a.k.a. armistice) and peace-talks (a.k.a. accords), but it’s the same conflict. Israel should not exist. Palestine should have its land returned to them. Of course Palestine should not be blowing up innocents and Israel should have their murdered families returned alive to them.

Israel will not go away, any more than Palestine will returned alive the murdered families.

Argue all you will, right and wrong do not belong in this particular fight. Both sides are horrendously wrong, yet equally right. The bombs will continue to go off, and the incursions to the Occupied Territories (including any new ones that should crop up) will expand.
