<And, nonsense. By this reasoning, the US could be building villages in Japan.

"If anything, Israel (the US) has a moral, and by right of conquest, legal right to the entire West Bank (nation of Japan) and Gaza Strip (Okinawa), and if they wanted to annex it tomorrow, they could.

Hate to point this out, but after WWII, for all intents and purposes, we did take over Japan for about seven years, making new rules to our benefit and laying a new constitution on them. We eventually gave the country back (we kept Okinawa until 1972), because we're just that kind of nation. The Soviet Union didn't give back a lot of countries that it ended up in after WWII, until just a few years ago.

From this article:

Gen. Douglas MacArthur was appointed supreme commander of the U.S. occupation of postwar Japan (1945–52). In 1947 a new constitution took effect. The emperor became largely a symbolic head of state. The U.S. and Japan signed a security treaty in 1951, allowing for U.S. troops to be stationed in Japan. In 1952 Japan regained full sovereignty, and in 1972 the U.S. returned to Japan the Ryuku Islands, including Okinawa.

Despite having been "occupied" for a time, Japan did pretty good for itself in the years following.
