In the 14th Century BC the Hebrews and Philistines invaded the predominantly Canaanite territory which would become "Palestine", the name derived from the Aegean peoples of Greek extraction, Philistines.
Joshua conquered parts of Palestine, but was unable to dislodge
the war-like Greeks who established an independent state on the southern coast and controlled the Canannite city of Jerusalem.
Cavid finally defeated the Philistines in 1000 BC and all of Palestine became the state of Israel, with it's capitol in Jerusalem. In the centuries that followed Palestine was conquered
by the Babylonians, under Nebuchadnezzer (whew!), the Persians under Cyrus the Great, Alexander of Macedonia, and finally, the
Seleucids, who supplanted Hellenistic culture over that of
the Hebrews.
This oppression continued until the uprising of the Maccabees in 141-163 BC, the house of Hasmon, who restored the temple and the
worship of Elohim. Palestine remained under Jewish rule until the
Arab conquest of 638. The Ottoman Turks defeated the Mamelukes in 1517 and rukes Palestine until 1917.
The First Zionist Congress adjourned in Basle, Switzerland in 1897 and encated the Basle Programme to Colonize Palestine, and
plan that was not underway until the meeting of the Fourth Zionist Congress in 1904. Migration of the Jews continued until
the outbreak of WWI, and in 1917 the British issed the Balfour
Declaration which promissed the permanent establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine.
The Declaration was approved by the League of Nations in 1922. In 1929 the conflict which still goes on to this day began when Arabs staged bloody raiding into Jewish settlements and killed 133 people.
The tangle of treaties and meddling by world powers in the Palestinian issue goes on and on, to this very day.
