Re: Leftist cartoonist gets his wakeup call

A lot of righties are getting rude awakenings, too. It's inevitable in a society that has become as polarized as this one.

Look at the problems of Mitt, and even Newt, for not embracing the lunatic fringe with sufficient enthusiasm.

It's not as noticeable on the left, that has already coalesced around a leader, but among Republicans, we see the persistence of the crazies while responsible, centrist potential candidates are marginalized, overlooked, and are choosing to wait the 2012 election out.

Even an Obama supporter like myself has enough doubts about him to wonder why Republicans are starting to talk as if he were unbeatable, with the election still a year and a half away and with plenty of unresolved problems on the horizon. Except for the populist demagogues, Obama has no credible challengers.

I'm sticking my neck out on this, but I expect Jeb Bush will be drafted at the Tampa convention. It's Florida, he'll have Cuban exile support, and as a fluent Spanish speaker, with a Hispanic wife and a history of being "soft" on Mexican immigration, he will be the best the GOP can come up with in the way of a compromise. I believe Republicans are counting on people having forgotten just how bad the Bush Jr years really were by 2012.
