with a Gingrich-Bachmann ticket. I'm sure the GOP could field candidates which could credibly challenge Obama, but they won't because, as we have seen, half the Republican constituency considers them too "socialist".
But we're not out of the woods yet. It won't be the first time in history that fear, hatred and ideological extremism triumphed over a moderate majority in a time of national crisis. The future isn't entirely a blank slate, it's a palimpsest.
