In a recent poll, a "generic" Republican beat Obama out by 45 to 43 percent. A week before that, in the same poll, those numbers were reversed. Of course, a "generic" candidate always does better than a real one, since everyone subconsciously plugs in their own ideal candidate when answering the question. Obama's approval rating among independents has dropped 20 points in the past two years. In the 2010 election, independents went for Republicans by 56 TO 37.
Seems like the "lunatic fringe," which apparently means anyone who doesn't think that statism is a good idea, is a bit larger than you think.
By the way, has any presidential candidate ever been actually "drafted?" Would this make for a better president or a worse one?
