Well, I'm not going to dispute your assertions...you could well be correct. Everytime I think I've got a feel for the political will of the country I get the rug pulled out from under my feet.
The GOP could take it in 2012, but if they do I bet Americans sour on them quickly. You know the old saying "Everyone wants to go to heaven, but no one wants to die." Same thing in politics, I think. Sure let's balance the budget, but NIMBY.
As for vanilla pudding moderates...well, aside from making me hungery, it's my hope that the conservatives CAN find someone who lives nearer the center of the road. Someone who eases the brakes on spending, not slams on them. I know, that may smack of "compromise" (which can now be spelled with only 4 letters, apparently), but compromise and cooperation (and lungs) are part of what separates us from insects.
