Not that I doubt we would do it but I have not seen anything on the torture cases you seem familiar with. I am aware that we have taken captives to other countries but I have no specific knowledge that they were subjected to thumb screws or cattle prods. Have you got a link?
The reasons that we might take someone to another country, other that their choice of cuisine or to put them on the rack, are the reasons that I mentioned above. The captive would feel more psychological pressure and hopelessness in a country that has no problem with torture and we avoid the due process that he would be intitled to in the USA.
Avoiding due process does not automatically mean physical torture. It does mean the interrogation can go on as long as we choose, using whatever methods we choose.
Frankly, I suspect that gothic style torture or drugs may be less effective and reliable than long term interrogation with nob-physical techniques like isolation and sleep deprivation.
The problem with bringing captives to this country is not necessarily what we might do to them. It is having time to get the information we need while Barbara Walters and Johnny Cochran are calling hourly along with a dozen groups anxious to provide them with free organ transplants and cable TV in their cell.
