Re: Okay, lets start out with these.

So, you are certain that war is not the right thing to do, regardless of whether the alternatives are unworkable or not?

Not sure how useful that is, but at least you gave it a good shot, with some creative thinking instead of the usual parroted phrases, which is a lot more than most anti-war people have done.

1) More than a few people, including myself, think that this might have been a good idea. But the leadership of the U.S., and most other nations, are very hesitant (for obvious reasons) to start a precedent of capping world leaders as a foreign policy technique. Personally, I think blowing world leaders away in huge numbers would go a long way toward eliminating from the gene pool whatever it is that makes people want to control other people and tell them how to live.

2) You are right that Saddam is not even remotely likely to agree to major reforms without being threatened, and any idea that presumes using a massive surrounding U.S. troop presence as a long-term arrangement is unworkable. It costs us some serious money to just have these guys doing nothing but sitting over there, not to mention the wear and tear on them and their families. The negative political ramifications, almost as bad as fighting a war itself, are also a factor.

And look at how little cooperation we got up until now, even with those troops in place.

3) See #2.

4) This would probably start the war anyway.

5) The Iraqi people are well aware of what Saddam has been doing. It's no big secret. The rest of the world also knows.

6) Interesting, in the same way as #1. Probably no easier, and less effective. Saddam has a lot more goons where those came from, and has weathered a number of internal assassination attempts already.
