Depends on whether the logic is relative or absolute

Human lives can be viewed as quantifiable, as on a casuality report, or unique and precious, as in an obituary column.

I see numbers bandied about without much connection to the human end of things. It curdles my blood.

Also, Hitler killed his own Jews, Gypsies, and other dissenters and hideous-polluters-of-the-German-gene-pool first. He acted within the borders of his own country, before expanding the efforts into Poland. In this way, he is thoroughly comparable to Saddam, who has also slaughtered people within his own borders based on ethnicity, religion, and dissent. Some say Saddam has not done this outside his own borders because he hasn't had the opportunity. I tend to agree, but this is of course all speculative.

I have to go to work now, so please don't take any lack of further response for a while the wrong way. :)

Regards--
Mary Anne
