But we don't want to be an example...

So we made Sadam Hussain into an example. He bounced a check so we displayed a sign prominently saying, "Sadam's checks are no good. Sadam won't be served here!"

Sadam tried to wear this as a Scarlet Letter. The Arab Street (if there really is such a thing), apparently in love the works of Hawthorne, was lapping it up as fast as Baghdad Bob could spill it. But now Sadam and his scarlet letter have disappeared, Baghdad Bob has apparently done a Judas impersonation, and the "Arab street" must face the reality that they were sold a fiction: There was no integrity hidden behind Sadam's Scarlet Letter (only evil).

For better or for worse. In about 20 years we will know where all the chips fell as a result of the Iraq action.

Lets hope Democracy takes root in Iraq and the Truth of Sadam is accepted by the Arab world as the evil that it was. And while I don't think terrorism will disappear completely, I hope that the terrorists will find it much more difficult to get state sponsorship for their actions vs. the United States.

Regards,

Scott
