Yup, read Dune. All 6 books infact..

Iraq is clearly Dune, you know the desert where all the good stuff(spice, oil) is.

Baron Harkonnen is put in charge of Dune by the Emperor of the known Universe (U.S.Foreign Policy?) and uses his nephews (sons) to terrorize the populace.

Problem is the Fremen (Zen-Sunni desert tribes) rise up and kill everyone and take over the Empire when the Emperor is on Dune.
