From the National Review.
The Democratic Party would give anything...ANYTHING...to have the economy be in the crapper in 2004. A vast majority of the press agrees with this point of view. Certainly Harold Meyerson falls into this category.
The Democratic Party is fighting like hell to stop tax cuts. You connect the dots.
A rotten economy, unemployed workers, and general misery are considered a small price to pay for the Democrats to get power back again.
What they're also hoping for is that Bush finally backs off on tax cuts, and in the election, the Democrats will be able to turn around and stab him in the back on the issue, like they did with his father.
Odd, but in the famous "read my lips" attacks on Bush, I don't seem to remember any Democrats standing up and pointing out that Bush did the right and mature thing by raising taxes to avoid deficits.
The Left believes with all its heart that money in the hands of Ted Kennedy will grow the economy, and that money in the hands of American industry and capital sources will not. The conservative believes the opposite. Pick a side and run with it. I have.
