re: Reaching.

"Well I'm clearly not the only one to have been struck by the stereotyping."

I have to admit, when you mentioned the old Star Trek series that I used to think that the Klingons were a version of Communist Russians and the Ramulans were the Chinese version.

"I don't like slithering down these other sites for too long..."

I don't either. Waste of time and energy and they do evoke a sense of hate.

" find it interesting that we are certainly not the first to postulate the anti-capitalism message being sold via the Star Trek franchise."

I don't think it's that at all. If that was their intent, they failed. As was said above about the Industrial Revolution... mainly that it was good, but methods had to be applied to make it better. I don't think that the Star Trek Utopia would have come into being if it had not been for allowing people to inquire and prosper in their own needs and beliefs.

"PS. I wonder if having this debate increases our geekiness ranking sufficiently. ;-)"

Not unless we've uncovered those Replicators, Transporters and Warp Speed secrets. :)
