Circling the wagons
I don't know where you get this impression, but capitalism is under furious attack where it counts, in universities, in our media culture, [and on and on and on]
That's the circling-the-wagons, Tom, preemptively defending against a perceived external threat. Capitalism is not under attack on this thread. The discussion we almost had, but fell flat on our faces, was about how to build on the success of capitalism positing a future in which at least one of the fundamentals of the system had changed radically. It's merely rational to consider how the system must change if its circumstances change.
It's not an attack on capitalism to think about what might lie beyond it and be even better. Surely you're not threatened by the success of your children?
