re: Who bought it?

RobVG:

I hope very much you are right, but the right in america seems to be climbing aboard the 'to the bitter end' bus, much the way they did over nixon, and much the way the left did over Clinton. And its getting ugly, the partisans are getting nasty, trying (Coulter and Newt, for instance) to paint anyone who raises the WMD+Terrorist issues as anti-american 'Saddam Lovers' or 'terrorists' or etc.

You can see it here on this bord in spades. I have already seen the right hand side here saying people like Don are reveling with joy in the deaths of american soldiers, and then refusing to even consider such behavior as insulting or uncalled for.

I myself predicted that there would be a McFly effect, because most of the day-to-day republicans I meet emphasise accountability, honesty and integrity in politics. I was wrong, folks are bending their political perspectives like pretzels in order to avoid throwing in the towel on this war and on Bush.

In the end Rob, I am losing my faith that America will let this issue matter to them, as I daily observe people backflip around this. The paralytic 'me-too-ist' american left can't even be counted on to raise this issue.

What, did we really just slaughter 10-15,00 people for fictitious reasons? And is it really true that nobody gives a crap?

I don't know which is worse. I thing the former as a humanitarian/social justice nightmare, and the later as a nightmare for the american character.

Hey- didn't we have a bet? Do you recall the terms of that bet? I'm not sure I do... I think you had to vote Green and I had to vote republican or something like that....
