"In 1986, the decision to build Endeavour was taken and its funding was approved without problem. "
*********
Uh, this is not 1986 and this is a recurring problem. Fool us once fine. Fool us twice...
Nobody (analytical and rational) believes that NASA will 'fix' the problem this time. Why 'build another orbiter'? Bad idea.
"I remember being very worried when administrator Fletcher said (in 1988) that the space station will not be launched (or built) by a Shuttle derived HLLV, but only by the Shuttle."
*****************
Yes, a bad decison to use the Shuttle to launch ISS and not a derived HLLV
Right now I (as a space cadet) regret to agree that our president has more urgent problems requiring leadership. We, unlike some fatally flawed societies, expect our leaders to act when thousands of our people die. He has. Unfortunately, the international community (excepting UK & Aussies) stabbed him in the back in the process. We'll get back to you once we've fixed the problems threatening Western civ. Won't take us more than a few years. No problemo!
