Oddly, I find myself agreeing with Tom, although probably for substantially different reasons.
Not unlike the US involvement (and the CIA creation of what would become Al Quaeda) in Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion, it is likely that extra bodies in the line of fire will only prolong the ugliness. Similarly, on a political level, it seems probable that UN involvement can only serve to extend and confound the issue.
Regardless of involvement and whatever the outcome, it seems highly unlikely that getting there will be very pretty for those that happen to live in Iraq.
