Politicians tend to waste money. All humans do. Do you think every dollar you spend or your wife spends is spent wisely? Do you plan your time based on the minimum time it will take to do tasks of do you give room for inneficient uses of time? No human endevor is perfect. Ruling out an endevor that involves people because it might involve waste means ruling out everything.
Now if you want to argue about degree of waste, there are certainly many very wasteful programs in government but that also depends on personal priorities. There are others that are critical. There are many that have been neglected by the Republican's less regulation is better attitude. Deregulated energy has not been the boon Republican's claimed and airlines are failing left and right rather than going gangbusters. Democrats often do the same to defense. It's also about political priorities not absolutes. Not all things work by allowing greed to run wild. Power corrupts and greed is good only so long as the self interest of the many dominates rather than the greed of a few. Even the self interest of the many can become distructive if it becomes abusive of the minority. Nothing is so good that it can't be overdone and few things are so bad that they have no useful purpose. Government's proper place is to prevent abuses by the powerful and the majority.
Abuse by the majority is the biggest potential desatabilizing force in democracy and why so many fledgling democracies fail. Democracy is naturally an antidote to the abuse by the powerful and that is why it is such an improvement over past forms of government. Strange that so many Republican's wrap themselves in the flag then keep trying to make the powerful even more so.

Mark
