"Deregulated energy has not been the boon Republican's claimed and airlines are failing left and right rather than going gangbusters."
The purpose of deregulating airlines is to lower the cost and provide better service to the passengers. The purpose of deregulating energy is to lower cost and provide better service to electrical consumers. If deregulating does not allow more real choices to consumers it is not successful- in order words if you only really have one choice of who to buy your electrical power from then it's very likely that you haven't had "deregulation" electrical power- if you only & "always" have two choices it's also not been deregulated- new businesses starting and others failing is a sign that you have real competition. Simple metric: Regulation = helps create molopolies & Deregulation = allows real competition.
