And how far do guerillas get if there isn't at least some level of popular support.
The hundreds of guerillas captured and killed so far in Iraq have been almost exclusively due to information volunteered by Iraqi civilians. We are getting cooperation on many fronts. Despite the attempts to twist the facts, the vast majority of Iraqi people are not supporting the attackers.
So the US is the only country in the world that is democratic, tolerant and progressive? You contradict yourself.
I didn't say that. I said it was one of the few democracies with enough power and influence to actually threaten the Islamists. Iceland is one of the oldest democracies on Earth, but doesn't tend to influence international policy much.
I used Iceland and Lichtenstein as off-the-cuff extreme examples, but do you view Canada as undemocratic, intolerant and backwards? Has Canada "done nothing and accomplished nothing"? See how many reports of terrorist attacks on Canada you can find.
You think Canada is immune? The U.N. thought so too, since after all, it opposed us at every turn. Look what happened. Attacks in France have been thwarted as well. It is naive at best to assume that simply failing to actively oppose Al Qaeda and the rest will appease them.
