re: Not parasites.

Those damn parasites, the unemployed! They deserve their suffering, dammit, because they...because they....uh, well, I'm sure you can point out the character flaw or moral deficit that led to their just punishment by the implacable divinely-ordained forces of capitalism.

I wasn't making a moral judgment, just stating a fact. An adult who is not producing, but living off the producers, is not contributing to the economy*. That doesn't make them evil or immoral by any means, or even lazy (anyone can hit a bad patch). But it should be remembered when deciding what the best way is to keep an economy rolling, which is how this conversation got started.

Bullshit. I went out of my way to say explicitly that I'm not talking about "flattening" the curve--that is, reducing its slope; I'm observing that its shape is highly nonlinear.

My apologies...I assumed you were talking about forcibly modifying the shape of such a curve--Lord knows enough people do--but in fact, upon rereading the post, you actually say nothing of the sort, although you sure aren't happy with the current curve.

"BTW, what are you guys going to do when the employment numbers start going up again?"

Look for gainful employment again, you ninny. Why do you think I have little patience with dogmatic theories that don't match reality?

Zing! Yeah, I'm between contracts myself, and not for the first time. We just fired off a proposal to the DARPA FALCON project. Fingers crossed! Good luck to you, too.

Sure wish there was some way to make money writing posts!

*spending unemployment money that was originally taxed from the businesses you buy things from just moves the wealth in a circle. It doesn't increase it.
