Congress shall make no law...

A lot of powerful people would also benefit from the United States endorsing or financing a specific church. Or if only one newspaper was permitted to be printed. In many nations, this is in fact the case.

It isn't in the United States. Why? Because we set up rules to prevent it. Rules could have been set up to prevent the abuses of a mixed economy, too. "Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of production and trade." It wasn't impossible. And while you can't wave a magic wand and make it happen, it isn't impossible to start carefully moving in that direction now.

You can't purchase favors from a government incapable of delivering them. No amount of money I pumped into campaign contributions would be able to make me the only newspaper in Kansas or California.

P. J. O'Rourke once said "When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators." This has been true for years. Liberals wail constantly about how the rich steer the government, but are unwilling to consider the obvious solution: remove most of the power of the government to affect commerce and wealth. Why? Because it isn't the power they are against. It's the power in the hands of someone other than themselves. They would LOVE to be able to micromanage the economy.
