When I make a statement like agreeing with the Dennis Miller quote, I am not thinking of the millions of fly-over democrats who may think of themselves as left of center by definition. When I think of you and most of our non-conservative members, I think first Democrat and second liberal but seldom left.
I have in mind the thousands of left wingers that speak so loudly they are by their own claim and all appearances the voice and conscience of the left/lib/dem. The fact that the DNC is allowing someone like Al Franken to host party events is not helpful. I would be embarrassed if Ann Coulter were chosen for a similar GOP role.
For a notable exception, this morning I heard a dem Congressman from GA who spoke out against the media for the negative reporting from Iraq. He probably thinks of himself as a dem and not a left winger. We need more of that.
There is also a tendency from some to demand that any statement be a perfect literal fact. If I say that Iraq is a Islamic nation, some will call me down since there are x number of christians in Iraq. That's just parsing IMO.
I imagine that this will continue to be a problem if I fail to include the adjective radical and I am not sure how to deal with it other than to issue a permanent caveat of "present company excluded" unless I mention names.:)
