re: You still don't have the votes

Chris writes: Nobody is yelling at Barry.

Ed wrote: - furhtermore, given the current fiscal climate, and other certain pressing needs (such as finding the next impactor as early as possible before it hits), that is highly unlikelly to change

Chris writes: There is no evidence that finding a impactor which will possible hit thousands of years from now is a pressing need. And congress doesn't buy the hazard.

Ed wrote: - furthermore, you have not had the votes since 1965 - and very few people now confuse Mars with the Earth, except for a few of you Mars enthusiasts.

Chris writes: Who's votes where? Nobody confuses Mars with Earth and nobody in the recent past has. In the 1961 we knew Mars would be less Earth like and more Moon like, before Mariner 4! The atmosphere was known to be ~10% of Earths, there was no liquid water at the surface, radiation bathed the planet, it was feezing cold and the polar caps were CO2 ice.

Ed wrote: - furthermore, the number of people so deluded will fall even further after Mars Express and the Mars Exploration Rovers return their data

Chris writes: We shall see.

Ed wrote: - As for Mars being the key to a space faring society, we already are a space faring society: all of us, everyone of us, is riding on spacehip Earth. The key to the future development of space is making sure that that spaceship stays intact.

Chris writes: This is so unprofound and so second grade thinking I don't know where to begin! A spacefaring society leaves this "spaceship" behind and moves out past the solar system. The future to a spacefaring society is not caring what is happening on the planet Earth!
