re: Universal morals, input requested
One must assume that if human life and alien life are in principle capable of sharing symbolic values with mutual understanding, they are therefore, in principle capable of understanding and reaching agreement on moral behaviour.
Morality, although individually directed, is all about how one treats others - and to reach a moral decision one must have agreement (whether compromise or consensus) with the Other. The alternatives are an absolute moral code where one set of morals is forced on to another or a completely relativistic moral code in which interaction simply never takes place - and nor does intervention!
