A different take on "exploitation".

Not of one culture by another, but of a planetary system's resources by its sole sentient species.

Do you believe, as I do, that there MUST be some commonalities in ethics for races that survive to become spacefaring? And the most important question- do humans possess those ethics?

I am using the term 'ethics' loosely... More accurate would be 'general racial attitudes'... I propse that one commonality we would have would be a desire to explore the unknown....

Any others?

Let's be even clearer and call it shared motivation. See my post to Dan just above... and realize that one possible "only" way humans may ever get farther than LEO is to harvest the ices and minerals orbiting the Sun at various distances. So far, on Earth, raw curiosity and desire to explore have not been sufficient to marshal the resources necessary. Desperation may. Will we share that parallel history with anyone we meet Out There? Will it make a difference if we do, or not?

"Fascinating, Captain..."
