You're misinterpreting the principles of evolutionary biology through the filter your acknowledged racism. Individuals don't act to protect the "gene pool" (a very inexact and abused term). They act to protect their own genes and promote their survival through their offspring. The objective of the "selfish gene" is to dominate its own species gene pool. It's a blind competition with no inherent value judgments. The presumption of superiority implicit in racism is simply a primal urge expressed in high-falutin words.
Yet even that's only the tip of the iceberg. As Mary Anne tries to point out, saying that individuals are driven to single-mindedly favor their genes by "wanting their children to look like them" is too simplistic. Individuals from different genetic lines have been interbreeding since the begining of life, demonstrating an instinctive understanding of the concept of hybrid vigor counterbalancing the tendency to inbreed. The result of a billion years of evolution is a very subtle and nuanced--one might anthropomorphically say "wise"--instinctive understanding of genetics.
Racism and pursuit of "racial purity" are profoundly unnatural acts.
