Control of how they run their government is not the same thing as pulling our armed forces out.

The terrorists think they can wear us down, and many people in America and Europe are doing nothing to disabuse them of that notion. Why do you think the Mogadishu analogy comes up so often? Back then, that tactic worked. Doesn't anyone else see why they are attacking police, aid workers, and civilians? This isn't about eliminating the coalition. It's about eliminating the possibility of democracy.

It is insane to dictate military policy and tactics based primarily on casualties. You do your damndest to minimize them, but this is not the top priority in war. God knows how WWII would have been fought if we or our allies had had an "unacceptable" casualty level at any point during the war.
