What alternative do you suggest?

The vast majority of the people in the cordoned-off area have been civilians. Siege has a very successful history as a military tactic, but it means starving the population and depriving them of contact with medical care.

Bombing areas to cinders is a faster option. Consider, though, the results of press coverage of four charred bodies of grown men on us, change the grown men to infants, multiply by twenty or so, and count the effect on the rest of Iraq.

What precisely do you want to liberate Iraqis from?
