In theory, this could work, but the people we are fighting have a history, particularly in the early phases of the war, of shooting civilians attempting to leave the area. They need the civilians as shields. Believe me, the insurgents know how to play American media and the antiwar people like a fine violin. It's not like their "buttons" aren't obvious and easy to push.
Remember this? We're dealing with the same people.
A related caveat: track the sources of all the "atrocities" we are hearing about. Many of them originate from al Jazeera and similar sources that are, to put it charitably, suspect. Many of the stories, like those of the snipers, have flaws that may not be obvious to the average American (wrong ammunition, use of laser sights, etc.). I will address specific examples when, inevitably, they appear here.
