re: The Watergate investigation remains a hallmark of investigative reporting

Very true. And I think that is part of the problem with the media frenzy. There are thousands of Reporters that want their ‘Watergate’ story. They go after whoever to get it. They went after Clinton and they go after Bush. No president has been immune since Watergate. And for the jouranlist bosses, it is about making money.

Presidents should be accountable for their actions, and they should have eyes watching over them, but the press needs to get out of this feeding frenzy mode they get into, and stick with reporting facts. They need to leave out their personal biased feelings and stick with the facts.

And if they do get the facts that a president is doing something illegal, then so be it. But that comes with research and hard work, not rumors and hearsay, or personal opinions.

Part of the problem is that we have too many Woodard want to be reporters and not enough sensational new to report on. There is plenty of news to report on, but not the stuff they want. I say again, would it kill them to report what spirit and opportunity are doing on Mars. What about all these other fascinating science stories we discuss on the Space board? Would it kill them to do daily science reports?

It just really irks me with all these fascinating science discoveries being made in all fields, all the TV media can report is sensational stories about politicians and movie stars, and sports. Have we really left High School? It's like the football team gets all the glory while the science club gets the wedges (from the football team).

I'll get off my soap box now. Don't get a Texan ranting.

Tom is right about the Internet. I think it will, eventually, make reporters get back to being good reporters, and not the garbage spreaders most are now. And at least we can get our science news from the internet.
