Yep, the commission, appointed by Bush himself is now sadly deluded in their conclusions. I guess they simply didn't have access to the info you're referring to. They do tend to keep stuff like that away from investigatory panels.
REB, why in the world, with your obvious distrust of many governmental individuals, would you believe career politicians like Bush and Cheney anymore than any of the others. This selective credibility is based on what? Their public assurance to you they're uber-patriotic, God-fearing men with strong family values and protectors of the stem cells? Just because you share some ideaology with these guys doesn't mean they're not highly dishonest and telling you things you want to hear to keep themselves in power. Would you trust a car salesman and the deal he was handing you simply because you knew he was a member of the same political party?
Listen guy, I'm not advocating you suddenly start throwing away your political heroes and start embracing the guys on the other side. I don't really trust them either. I tend more to trust the few politicians that buck their own parties from time to time. Now that takes guts and integrity. Even then you can't factor out the ulterior motives. Just keep those in mind when you're canonizing someone like Dick Cheney.
