Japan and Germany were not nation building!

Our goals in Japan and Germany were hardly the same and our involvement with them scarcely alike to the situation in the Mideast or Panama or Iran or any of our other blunders to mess with countries that, although were pains in the ass, were hardly trying to take over the world.

When WWII ended, Germany was a destroyed country. Its people were in shock and all their leaders and military in shambles. They were having revenge extracted on them by brutal and vengeful Soviet troops. I'm certain that the mellow Americans coming in with an olive branch were a welcome relief to the brutal occupation the Russians would have exacted on them. They were people of similar religious beliefs so the cultural shock wasn't there. Many of the German citizens had relations in the West.

As for Japan, their Emperor surrendered totally to the Allies and commanded his people to bow to the occupiers. The country, in spite of it's brutal militarism of the war, was united in religion and culture and had none of the regionalized infighting of places in the Mideast.

REB, take a Mideast history class. This is an area that doesn't fit the rules of Western thinking.
